Keeping your fingers together in one shell holds in more body heat, and the Reusch Alba Mitten adds a GORE-TEX membrane that keeps out wind and wet. It's a vegan leather palm that holds the poles firmly. An elasticated storm leash and an adjustable wrist cinch strap keep it fixed to your hand.
